What the course covers

Formerly known as BPS level A and B certification in psychometric testing, this course is now known as BPS Level-1 and 2 in psychometric test use. Our programme is carried out by BPS-accredited faculty and the portfolios are assessed by BPS-verified evaluators.

In this course, participants master the science behind psychometric evaluations. They learn how to examine, evaluate, select, administer and score a wide range of tests in workplace settings. Finally, they explain what the results mean for candidates and corporate clients.

After completing the course, participants register with the BPS as a Level 2 qualified test user (RQTU). Then, they can apply for the Euro Test Certificate (EuroTU) from the European Federation of Psychological Associations.

Course objectives include:

By the end of Level 1 training, participants should be able to:

Understand the range of available ability and aptitude tests
Know which aptitude tests to use in a given situation
Conduct mini-job analyses and identify assessment requirements
Understand other assessment methods and the validities associated with them
Administer, score and interpret aptitude tests
Make informed recommendations using aptitude test data
Give quality feedback to decision-makers, clients and candidates
Integrate tests into a corporate recruitment or review process
Understand statistical concepts used in testing
Evaluate the reliability and validity evidence of ability tests

By the end of BPS Level 2 Training, participants should be able to:

Show increased awareness and understanding of differences between individuals
Integrate personality assessments into corporate selection and development activities
Decide which questionnaires are appropriate for which situations
Administer, score and interpret personality questionnaires
Give professional selection feedback to candidates and hiring managers
Use personality questionnaire information to support structured interviewing
Critically assess the value of different tools for different purposes
Identify and reject inflated claims of validity, including ‘Barnum’ and ‘horoscope’ effects
Relate personality factors to organizations’ core competencies
Write selection reports for hiring authorities
Write development reports to help candidates develop greater self-awareness
Maintain appropriate records and data for audit, research and feedback purposes
Demonstrate professional best practices and compliance with employment legislation

Course structure

Pre-coursework: Pre-coursework consists of the completion of an assessed workbook. The workbook is supported by a detailed set of course notes, which will help you to complete the workbook questions. In total, you should allow around 20 hours to complete the pre-coursework.

Lectures and classroom sessions: A series of lectures and information sessions delivered by Chartered Psychologists.

Independent working: Completion of a set of written reports for both workshops.

Small group practical work and drop in sessions: To give you the opportunity to put your administration and feedback skills into practice, you will be working in small groups and running ‘real-life’ testing sessions.
